Years and years ago…
Maybe roughly around 2019 or so, I was having dinner with three other people.
We’ll call them:
Person A
Person B
Person C
And, of course, me
…for now.
Persons A and B were talking excitedly - frantically, even - about how amazing AI was becoming and how pretty soon, businesses wouldn’t even need to hire annoying goddamn humans anymore.
Or, at least, not very many of them.
For context, Person A and Person C owned a business together at the time.
And Person B was a teenager.
Persons A and B talked breathlessly for a very long time about how awesome this was.
Person C and I got progressively angrier.
Now… Person C, as noted earlier, was part-owner in a business her very own self.
But that didn’t stop her from just absolutely fucking hating where this was going.
She and I interjected…
“So, how the fuck exactly are people supposed to have jobs - and contribute, and pull their weight, and be self-sufficient, and not rely on asshole-government-handouts, and other whatever things about how people should get a goddamn job - if everybody’s so shit-ass excited about not having to hire pesky humans anymore?” we asked.
Persons A and B gave us wild, flippant shrugs.
“Who cares? That’s their problem.”
…and on they went about how great this was going to be…
