Some problems feel impossible because they aren't one problem. Break the giant thing into pieces you can actually hold, inspect, and work with—without losing sight of why you needed the answer in the first place.

Words like better, worse, expensive, successful, and safe need a reference point. Name the comparison before you trust the judgment.
